EVERBODY HATES SLICKZ: THE INTERVIEW

After having a successful spell on party island Aiya Napa for the second year running, I decided to catch up with the man of the moment as he prepares to drop his debut mixtape "Everybody Hates Slickz"

LL: Hi Slick Don, how are doing today?
SD: I'm fine man, couldn't be better, just being alive is a blessing in itself so saying that yeah I’m good lol.

LL: Can you give the readers a bit of background history as to who you are and what sort of music you do?
SD: My name is Slick Don, I’m 19 and I'm from Birmingham. I do everything really I'm not just an MC, I'm an Artist but the Genre in which I specialise in and evolved from is without a doubt Bassline.

LL: When did you realise that people were taking a real interest in your music and taking music seriously?
SD: Erm to be honest I never really noticed when people started to take a real interest in my music, it's a process which has happened over a period of time, any serious Musician will tell you that things like this rarely happen overnight and in order to get where I wanted to be it took a lot of hard work and dedication.

LL: How do you feel that the UK urban scene is doing in general at the moment?
SD: Personally, I'm feeling positive about the UK Urban scene right now because if you think back to 5-10 years ago the things that are happening now within the scene would have seemed impossible back then. The fact that everyone is pulling together and working as a unit is good, meaning that it’s no longer impossible to Grime, Bassline or Dubstep into the charts, providing you have the following and support it can easily be done so I'm happy about that, it's a good look!

LL: Having established yourself outside of Midlands’s area. Is there any advice that you have for any up and coming mc’s on the circuit?
SD: Basically I’d advise ay up & comers to be themselves, although there’s always room for inspiration from other artists if you feel that helps you but whatever you do ALWAYS remain yourself because at the end of the day nobody wants another P Diddy in the world or another 50 Cent. Just be different, work hard, try your best at everything you do and when you get knocked down come back up 3 times harder, I could go on all day but they are the main things to remember.

LL: Are there any particular artist’s that are really standing out which you would like to work with?
SD: There are always artists in the world that you would someday want to work with as a musician no matter who you are but for me there isn't anyone in particular that I think I would want to work with. I'm that type of person and I believe everything happens for a reason so if I'm meant to work with someone it will happen but I'm cool working with myself for now lol

LL: Can you shed any light on forthcoming releases you may have coming?
SD: Erm well projects to look out for that I can speak up on are my Debut single entitled ‘Comfort Zone’ and my Mixtape "Everybody Hates Slickz" which will be out within the next 3 months on iTunes and other stores and I've also got a few videos coming out soon so their just a few things to look out from me for now.

LL: Well thank you for taking time out to talk to us Slick Don, is there anything else you would like to add finally?
SD: I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me and or/is supporting me, it very much appreciated as without you nothing could be possible!!!
